The History of ASAHI TEC CORPORATION



August 1938 Incorporated Asahi Malleable Iron Co., Ltd. from Asahi Foundry
January   1950 Became a subsidiary of NGK Insulators, Ltd. which took a stake in the company
June   1958 Started production of aluminum alloy casting
February   1961 Became listed in the Second Section of the Nagoya Stock Exchange
November   1961 Inaugurated the Toyokawa Plant to increase the production of malleable cast iron
June   1976 Established Asahi Light Alloy Co., Ltd. as a 100% subsidiary specializing in the production of aluminum wheels
May   1978 Took a stake in Hoei Industrial Co., Ltd. to make it a subsidiary of the company
December   1980 Became listed in the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange
September   1987 Changed from a subsidiary to an affiliated company of NGK Insulators, Ltd.
March   1989 Established a subsidiary, Asahi Somboon Aluminum Co., Ltd.
November   1989 Changed the corporate name to ASAHI TEC CORPORATION
November   1990 Became listed in the 1st Sections of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Nagoya Stock Exchange
September   1991 Took over the whole business of its subsidiary Asahi Light Alloy Co., Ltd.
May   1993 Established a subsidiary, Asahi Somboon Metals Co., Ltd.
September   1995 Inaugurated the Yokoji Plant for the expansion of aluminum alloy casting business
August   1998 The company's accounting end was changed from May 31 to March 31
April   1999 Became a subsidiary of NGK Insulators, Ltd. due to a change in the consolidation criteria
August   1999 Business of Asahi Forging Co., Ltd. was transferred to Matec, Inc.
September   2001 A-TEC Co., Ltd was excluded from the consolidated subsidiaries by the clearance of stock holding
May   2003 The U.S. investment company Ripplewood Holdings L.L.C. took a stake in the company
October   2003 Established a joint venture Dicastal Asahi Aluminum Co., Ltd.
January   2005 Consolidated subsidiaries changed their names: ASAHI SOMBOON ALUMINIUM CO., LTD. was changed to ASAHI TEC ALUMINIUM(Thailand) Co., Ltd., and ASAHI SOMBOON METALS CO., LTD. was changed to ASAHI TEC METALS(Thailand) Co., Ltd.
March   2005 RHJ International SA/NV became the parent company by acquiring the company's stock
February   2006   Took a stake in Techno-Metal Co., LTD. to make  it a subsidiary of the company
January   2007   Took a stake in Metaldyne Corporation to make it a subsidiary of the company
March   2007   Established a joint venture Wheelhorse Asahi Aluminium Co., Ltd.
April   2008   Corporate split of Environmental Business to ASAHI TEC Environmental Solutions Corporation
May   2009   Metaldyne Corporation was excluded from the consolidated subsidiaries
